Daniel Gehrs Wines

Dan has been making wine for thirty-five years and produces an array of true-to-the-varietal wines from Central Coast, Paso Robles, and Santa Barbara County vineyards. A visit to their tasting room in the charming town of Los Olivos is a must if you’re anywhere in the vicinity.
Chardonnay Chardonnay: This wine has that wonderful Santa Barbara tropical fruit aroma with clear elements of pineapple, mango, guava and papaya which turns toward fresh, golden apple and butter cream on the palate.
Chenin Blanc Chenin Blanc: There is a ripe pear aroma together with notes of honey and flowers. Also reveals white peach and a subtle but distinct touch of Botrytis which takes that honeyed perfume to an even higher level. Expect a vanilla-marzipan-roasted hazelnut complex to emerge on top of the youthful fruit. Flavors range from nectarine to white peach to lemon meringue to ripe green plum and lemon rind. The purely natural, unadjusted acidity is enough to support a palate that is big, juicy, lush and fat. The acidity shows up in the tangy finish together with the vineyard’s signature minerality giving the wine great cut and a long, clean aftertaste. In the simplest terms, this is a full bodied but very well balanced wine.
Riesling Riesling: The delicately floral character of this wine, laced with ripe apricots and honey are balanced with modest residual sugar, crisp acidity, and well structured minerality. It is a pleasure to drink chilled on its own or try it with spicy Asian cuisine.
Pinot Noir Pinot Noir: This limited edition Pinot Noir was grown in the Santa Maria Valley appellation of Santa Barbara County. From a well established vineyard, this wine offers up ripe, black cherry and kirsch aromas with sweet earthy spiciness. The flavors are very smooth and well intergrated with blackberry overtones and spicy, black cherry nuances. It will be at it's best anytime over the next 3-4 years.
Syrah Syrah: Gehrs interpretation of the Syrah leans toward the style and tradition of the Rhone with moderate alcohol, smoothness, balance and a real appetite for food. It has been aged for 30 months with a portion on heavy toast French oak which adds an enticing, smoky aroma to the dominant elements of black stone fruit and fresh, sun-warmed thyme. This Syrah is recommended to be paired with grilled meats of all types and the bold flavors of Mediterranean cooking. Enjoy over the next five years
Cabernet Sauvignon Cabernet Sauvignon: This vintage offers a purity of varietal fruit, black currant, blackberry, cassis and a hint of wild strawberry. Very smooth and juicy on the palate this wine will drink well over the next term with 3-4 years of aging potential as well.
Merlot Merlot: A blend of 87% Merlot, 9% Malbec and 4% Cabernet Franc, this is a lovely and fragrant wine. The in-blending of Malbec and Cabernet Franc in these percentages adds the complexity of cranberry and blueberry respectively to the ripe, black cherry and tanned leather fragrance typical of Merlot. Delicious, soft, lip-smacking tannins give length and structure to the finish. Enjoy over the next 3-4 years.
Zinfandel Zinfandel: Robust aromas of eucalyptus, pink peppercorn, and pomegranate sorbet with a rich, fruity-yet-dry medium-full body and a juicy, dried cherry, vanilla, and earth finish. A great claret styled zin for sipping or the table.
Fireside Port: Derived from the high elevation and granite-based soils of the Sierra Nevada foothills. It consists of the authentic and ancient Portuguese varietals that have brought the Porto district worldwide renown. Enjoy this dark, rich wine with full flavored cheeses, nuts or chocolate over the next 5-10 years.
